faq for employers

1. What is the Work Ready Pool?

The Work Ready Pool (WRP) is a pool of “work ready” seasonal workers whose application is successful and has been endorsed by their town and/or district officers.

2. Can I only select workers from the Work Ready Pool?

We recommend that employers select workers from the Work Ready Pool who have already undergone a rigorous Selection Process, and have screened and vetted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs working together with the applicant’s town and/or district officers and other community leaders. If you choose to select workers from the Work Ready Pool, you will also be able to specify any additional selection criteria that you are looking for in your workers, e.g. age range, height, relevant skills and work experience etc, which we will usually be able to accommodate. We have a large pool of workers who have on our Work Ready Pool with a wide range of relevant horticulture skills and experience, and we guarantee that we will be able to find you the workers you need through our Work Ready Pool. There are thousands of able, ready and willing Tongan seasonal workers on our Work Ready Pool who haven’t yet had the opportunity to participate in RSE or SWP. We appreciate you giving them a chance by choosing to select from our Work Ready Pool.

However, you may wish to nominate new workers on the basis of recommendations from group leaders and return workers who you trust and we completely understand that. As part of MIA’s service promise and to ensure that you obtain the high quality, skilled, productive, and reliable workers you need, MIA will undertake the same three-stage Selection Process with the nominated workers who will be required to satisfy all requirements: e.g. they must satisfy all eligibility requirements, and must be assessed by the town and district officer and the central Selection Panel as satisfying all MIA Selection Criteria. You will usually be able to recruit the worker that you have nominated, and we will advise you immediately if any issues arise.

3. What if I want to select my own workers?

We completely understand if you wish to nominate new workers on the basis of recommendations from group leaders and return workers who you trust. To support you in your worker selection and recruitment and as part of MIA’s service promise to ensure that you obtain the high quality, skilled, productive, and reliable workers you need, MIA will undertake the same three-stage Selection Process with the nominated workers who will be required to satisfy all requirements: e.g. they must satisfy all eligibility requirements, and must be assessed by the town and district officer and the central Selection Panel as satisfying all MIA Selection Criteria. You will usually be able to recruit the worker that you have nominated, and we will advise you immediately if any issues arise.
